An incredible LED facade
If you want to immerse yourself completely in classy casino atmospheres, you can indulge at the new Holland Casino in Utrecht. Livingprojects created a unique lighting installation for the facade of this striking gold-colored building. The spectacular design ensures that visitors to this new entertainment venue are immediately welcomed into a unique casino setting. A special and hospitable experience, exactly as Holland Casino envisioned it.
A golden diamond
The expressive building design of the casino in Utrecht was developed by OZ Architects. With Holland Casino’s wishes in mind, a golden diamond-shaped building was created that needed to be entirely illuminated. A spectacular sight! Lighting designer Siegrid Siederius explains: “Besides Holland Casino’s desire to illuminate the entire building and be able to display content, we also took into account the requirements from the BREAAM sustainability certification. You don’t want too much scattered light and no light pollution or glare in the surrounding area.”
Video content on the facade
Together with Holland Casino, Siegrid Siederius (on behalf of Arup), and facade builder Aldowa, we searched for the best lighting solution for the facade. This resulted in a custom-made linear LED fixture built into the overhang of the facade panels. The fixtures are therefore not directly visible, creating indirect light. The panels of the facade work as reflectors. The facade itself is essentially the fixture. Moreover, there’s also the possibility to display content on the facade. Every ten centimeters can take on a different color, making it possible to create a dynamic facade and even show detailed video content. This also presented an extra challenge for us, because with no less than 9000 fixtures, we had to think carefully about the cabling, connections, and a suitable location for control with the Pharos control system.
Add wow to make an entrance!
Besides the luxurious facade outside, the entrance of the casino also has a surprise in store for visitors. Based on a design by architectural firm Gensler, Livingprojects, together with Rovasta, developed a forty-meter-long lighting special that displays dynamic content. An eye-catching object with which Holland Casino continues to treat its visitors to a special casino experience.
