WILLEMSTRaaT AND NASSAUMONUMENT BREDA
Breda as a "smart city". To match this vision, the lighting in Willemstraat was in need of an upgrade. The street that forms the connection between Central Station and the bustling city center of Breda. A welcome or "goodbye" for travelers to and from this city. This requires an inviting atmosphere. The municipality of Breda and lighting designer Ellen de Vries thought so too. Ellen liked the idea of working with white light but was eager to create a more atmospheric scene. One that tickles your WOW. And we? We ensured that the design for the classic full-color street lighting was realized and could be controlled remotely.
SMART LIGHTING
Initially there was the idea to use white light for Willemstraat, but Ellen de Vries made a change of plans and added the colors red, green and blue. And keeping the "smart city" in mind, that addition is a very good idea. Because it creates the opportunity to be smart in the use of color to fit different atmospheres. For example a romantic, warm atmosphere. Colors create a lot more atmosphere than just cold, white lighting. "A street that feels atmospheric, also feels safer," says Ellen. In short; the new lighting makes the walk that you take from Breda Station to the city a lot more pleasant. Ellen: "You will also experience the beautiful historic city, that is Breda, in the evenings."
SMART CONTROL
A “smart city” of course needs “smart control”. The lights in Willemstraat can be easily controlled and adjusted to seasons, identity of the city, weather, holidays or the hour of the day. The LED lighting can be set in any color. For example, street lighting can switch from intimate, to a more warm atmosphere. When Breda goes to sleep, you can tell by the light, because it goes into a neutral position. And of course because we keep light nuisance and pollution into account!
SMART NASSAUMONUMENT
The Nassaumonument in park Valkenberg is also part of the "smart grid", which Ellen developed for the municipality of Breda to provide Breda with smart lighting. All lighting in Willemstraat and at the Nassaumonument was officially launched in September 2016.
