It is one of the important entrances for shoppers and tourists to the center of Deventer: the Smidsgang. The previously gray and messy appearance of this street was not exactly a visiting card for the city. But that changed! This passage to the center, where about a million people pass annually, underwent a metamorphosis. Including special lighting.
Beneath the starry sky of The Smidsgang
As if you are walking under a sky full of stars. That was the starting point for the design of the lighting, developed by Arjen van der Cruijsen. Scattered throughout the Smidsgang hang custom made lighting fixtures with lights from Color Kinetics that illuminate the alley in a special way. The goal? To make the entrance to the city attractive for shoppers and tourists.
To prevent parked bicycles in the Smidsgang, we also realized an illuminated bicycle symbol, to stimulate the use of the nearby bicycle storage.
Redesign of the Smidsgang
The redesign of the Smidsgang is one of the projects that have been realized to strengthen the atmosphere and identity of Deventer and its historical character. Previously, book hotel FINCH and the Zandpoort were also provided with lighting. This created a better experience for residents and visitors on important routes towards the center of Deventer.
