Interaction with video and lighting
Ever seen a koala in real life? It might be closer than you think. At Koalia Ouwehands Animal Park, you’ll find three of these fluffy marsupials. For the arrival of the very first koalas on Dutch soil, a special themed area was built: Koalia. Within the koala enclosure, Livingprojects, in collaboration with Store3D and Peerdrops, was able to create an interactive installation with light and video. The goal? To provide visitors with both entertainment and information about the koala.
Light for the right atmosphere
Through five different buttons, a specific story can be played on the screen. Think of information about the koala itself, the construction of Koalia, but also about the forest fires in Australia that unfortunately threaten these animals. When someone presses a button, not only does the corresponding video start, but one of the roots of the tree drawing also lights up. This playfully informs the viewer about these special animals. Incredibly important, because the koalas are here for a reason. Ouwehands Animal Park participates in a management program: through this, the park contributes to the reproduction and preservation of the species.
Fluffy sleepers
Although thanks to their cuddly appearance you could watch them for hours, the koalas themselves don’t do much. They spend most of the day (18 to 22 hours!) sleeping. Those who want to see and know more about the koala can visit the educational walls, made by Peerdrops. One of these walls shows the artwork of a tree in Aboriginal style. In the middle of the tree is an opening, the so-called ‘scar’. At that spot, we’ve incorporated a screen displaying images that inform the viewer well about the koalas.
